History of Kanak Bhawan

There are many beliefs associated with this place. Few believe this Bhawan was a gift from Kaikai, the stepmother of Lord Rama, to Goddess Sita after her marriage to Lord Rama. Kaikai was responsible for their exile to the forest, and this temple was a gesture of regret.

According to legend, a celestial palace was constructed at this location under the guidance of Vishwakarma, as per King Dasharath's request. It served as a private abode for Lord Rama and Goddess Sita.

#Trivia: The original construction of the temple is attributed to Vikramaditya, with later renovations carried out by Queen Vrishbhanu Kunwari of Orchha in 1891 AD.

Historical records indicate that during the Dwapar Yug, Maharaj Kush established the idols of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita in Kanak Bhawan.

However, the more commonly accepted belief is that Lord Krishna installed another set of deities on a mound before King Vikramaditya reconstructed the temple, a process later reaffirmed by Samudragupta.

The temple houses three pairs of consecrated idols, all depicting Lord Rama and Goddess Sita.

The largest of these idols was enshrined by Rani Sri Vrishbhan Kunwari, followed by the medium-sized one installed by King Vikramaditya.

Lord Krishna is said to have given the smallest idol to a woman with instructions to bury it, where she would eventually be laid to rest after her passing. This hidden idol was later discovered by none other than Vikramaditya.

Entry fees and timings of Kanak Bhawan

Entry to this spiritual place is free for all its visitors. Also, the Bhawan is open on all days of the week. The timings for the summer and winter seasons are different.

Summer timings are 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM. The Aarti timings are 8:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM in summer.

Winter timings are 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The Aarti timings are 8:30 AM, 12:00 PM, 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM in winter.

Best time to visit the Kanak Bhawan

The best time to visit this place is during the festivals like Diwali, Holi, Ram Navami, etc. The entire city is decorated with lights and diya during this time. Having said this, the best season to visit Ayodhya is the winter-spring season from October to March.
